UA Officer Elections

United Academics is holding elections for six officer positions this year, with nominations due by March 22, 2024. All members in good standing* are eligible to serve as officers, as well as to nominate other members in good standing. Self-nominations are also permitted. If you’re interested in running, current council members will happily talk with you and answer your questions. As always, you can contact UA staff with any questions at [email protected].

Open positions:

The Executive Council (EC) is the primary leadership body of United Academics with a focus on initiating, overseeing, or revising the program of your union. The positions that are open this year are listed here with the current person in them, so you can contact the current council member with your questions. The positions we especially need you to fill are in bold.

    • Treasurer (Harbaugh)
    • VP for NTTF Instructional Affairs (Wakefield)
    • VP for Diversity and Equity (Fujiwara)
    • Chair of the Grievance and Contract Administration Committee (Whalen)
    • Chair of the Politics Committee (vacant)

Officer Elections:

To be nominated to be an officer, a member in good standing needs the signature of 10 other members in good standing. Please complete and submit this form directly to the union hall staff at 603 East 13th or email it to [email protected]. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

In the event there is only one nominee for each position after nominations have closed and prior to ballot distribution, that nominee will be considered elected by acclamation and no ballot vote will be held. In the event of a ballot election, a notice of election will be mailed to the last known home address of each chapter member.

Nomination notices for officers must be received by 4:59 pm on March 22, 2024.

*A member in good standing is defined as a bargaining unit member who has been actively employed by the university in a bargaining unit position at any time during the last twelve months, has signed a union membership card, and either pays regular membership dues while employed by the university or pays a $10 per month membership dues fee when not employed by the university.

2024 AAUP National Delegate

Nominations are being sought for the position of chapter delegate(s) and alternates to the biennial meeting of the American Association of University Professors to take place in Arlington, Virginia, June 13 through June 16, 2024. Chapter delegates will attend in person and represent the chapter at the biennial meeting and will cast the votes of the chapter in the election of AAUP officers to be held at the biennial meeting.

Any chapter member in good standing is eligible to be nominated, or to nominate another member, as delegate or alternate. A member may self-nominate themselves for the position. To be nominated as a delegate, a member in good standing needs the signature of 10 other members in good standing. The delegate(s) elected will serve a term from the date of the election until the close of the Association Biennial meeting for which they are elected.

Nominations for delegate or alternate must be made in writing either by email or by US mail and must be received no later than 4:59 p.m. on March 22, 2024.
