First Year Faculty Development Program

New tenure-line faculty from different colleges and schools participate in a First Year Faculty Development Program sponsored by UA and Academic Affairs.

MONTHLY SESSIONS

Faculty from across campus meet for lunch to address topics that include:

  • Establishing and implementing your research plan for tenure and promotion
  • Developing a teaching, research, and personal support network on campus
  • Navigating departmental and institutional cultures
  • External grants and fellowships for pre-tenure faculty
  • Approaches to undergraduate and graduate student mentoring
  • Book proposals and working with presses and journal editors
  • Meeting your equity and inclusion obligations for tenure and promotion

Senior faculty from across campus will also be available to meet with individual faculty on an ongoing basis.

Tenure Preparation

Three informational and inspirational lunchtime meetings for faculty preparing for tenure and third-year reviews will be held in January, February, and March.UA logo round

Faculty Helping Faculty

Faculty volunteer to help new colleagues with challenges they face at the UO. In some cases, an outside perspective and a friendly ear will be all that is needed. Other times, these faculty will be able to direct you to university resources that can help. Feel free to contact any of them with your question or concern.
