Appointments for Pro Tem faculty expire with the end of the appointment and there is no expectation that the appointment will be renewed.
Pro Tem positions are designed to be temporary. Except in rare cases, Pro Tem positions cannot last more than three years. In no case can a faculty member hold a Pro Tem position for longer than three years. Faculty in Pro Tem positions can only work at the university longer than three years if they apply for a new position at the university, have their position reclassified by their department or unit, or petition the Provost for reclassification.
